Atmos isn’t defined by having 8 channels. E-AC-3 JOC carries a 5.1 bed plus Atmos objects. MediaInfo shows the bed channels separately from the objects, so seeing 6 channels doesn’t mean it’s not Atmos.
The problem is that this file, which you call Dolby Atmos, does not contain channels 7 and 8. What you should have done is extract the full Dolby Atmos version from Apple Music, then mix channel 5 with channel 7 and channel 6 with channel 8. Instead, you converted it to an M4A with only 5.1 channels before doing that. This file is incomplete. You removed additional instruments and backing vocals that are only available in channels 7 and 8. Stop calling it Dolby Atmos unless you include all eight channels by properly folding channels 7 and 8 into the 5.1 mix.
You’re confusing an Atmos bitstream with rendered PCM. Apple Music delivers Atmos as E-AC-3 JOC, which typically consists of a 5.1 bed plus object metadata, not a fixed 7.1 PCM layout. Channels 7 and 8 only exist after the Atmos decoder renders the mix for a specific speaker configuration. The file I uploaded is the original E-AC-3 JOC Atmos bitstream, not a rendered 7.1 PCM mix. So the absence of channels 7 and 8 in the bitstream doesn’t make it "incomplete". That’s simply how Dolby Atmos JOC is designed to work.
