I took a look at the Brazilian NTSC version of the Confessions Tour DVD and compared it to the European PAL version. This time, it's kinda tricky. The concert film itself is actually better on the PAL DVD - clearer picture, higher resolution, and more progressive frames. The NTSC version is slightly cropped at the top and bottom, kinda stretched vertically, and a bit more blurry, with significantly more interlacing and movement shadows. This was probably caused by converting the original PAL source to NTSC. DVD PAL, Europe: DVD NTSC, Brazil: DVD PAL, Europe: DVD NTSC, Brazil: DVD PAL, Europe: DVD NTSC, Brazil - movement shadows caused by wrong frame rate: BUT I can't say that everything is better on the PAL DVD. First of all, the main menu of the disc is kinda stretched horizontally, idk why, whereas the NTSC version contains the disc menu in the correct aspect ratio. DVD PAL, Europe: DVD NTSC, Brazil: The bonus material is also of better quality on the NTSC DVD. It seems like the behind-the-scenes footage was recorded in NTSC, so the PAL DVD now shows movement shadows and more interlaced frames. I also think they may have used different masters here, since the bonus footage on the NTSC DVD has more contrast and shows more of the picture on the right side, whereas the PAL version has a black bar there. DVD PAL, Europe: DVD NTSC, Brazil: DVD PAL, Europe: DVD NTSC, Brazil: DVD PAL, Europe: DVD NTSC, Brazil: But there is also an one partial exception: the bonus feature "Rollerskating" has the correct frame rate on the NTSC DVD, but the PAL version has a higher video bitrate here. So some details are better to see on the PAL version, but at the same time, some details are lost because of that damn interlacing caused by the wrong frame rate. So, if you want to watch the tour movie in the best possible quality, I recommend the PAL DVD.
