Over the course of the next two years, The Bangles would tour relentlessly, building a following and polishing their sound. Their hard work would result in the mega-popular second album, Different Light, in 1986, which contained the global number one hit "Walk Like an Egyptian" and the Prince-penned "Manic Monday". One of the most high profile gigs of The Bangles career occurred on the tour for that sophomore album, when MTV taped an entire concert at Pittsburgh's Syria Mosque on October 29, 1986 and broadcast the performance into millions of homes that December. Capturing the group at a peak moment, this concert has since become the most ubiquitous of Bangles bootleg recordings and is essentially the closest thing to a professionally recorded live album of the band in their prime. MORE HERS STORY March 5, 1981 The Paisley Underground Along with the Dream Syndicate, Rain Parade, and the Three O'Clock, the Bangs [later, The Bangles] become the core of a 60's-inspired rock revival in Los Angeles known as "The Paisley Underground.” January 26, 1986 Manic Monday The Prince-penned track 'Manic Monday' hits #2 on the Billboard and UK charts, makes Top 5 in Norway, Austria Ireland, and New Zealand, and is certified Silver by the BPI. Ironically, Prince retains the #1 Billboard spot for himself with 'Kiss.' September 15, 2001 (Don't) Walk Like An Egyptian In a bizarre response to the terror attacks against the United States on September 11th, Clear Channel bans its radio stations from playing "Walk Like An Egyptian."
